Volunteer Program
The volunteer program is organized four times a year as follows:
1. Fall (mid-September to mid-December)
2. Winter (January, February, and March)
3. Spring (April, May, and June)
4. Summer (June, July, and August)
The program is designed to expose students to the many aspects of
veterinary medicine. Some students are interested in a career in
veterinary medicine, while some are not. Although we are not a
school, we do try to provide an educational experience for our
volunteers.
Our volunteer program consists of first time volunteers completing their
certification program and previously certified volunteers who have first
choice of available time slots.
Our certification is given to those volunteers who have completed all of
the following:
1. Minimum 24 hours service: 2-hour weekly sessions for 12 weeks
(maximum 3 hours per session).
2. Answer correctly 90% of the questions in the workbook. The
workbooks will be given out at the orientation meeting. Answers
may be found by observing, by reading, and by asking questions.
The book may be turned in early for review and preliminary grading.
3. View several videos on various diseases and write a short report on
one of them.
4. Demonstrate several techniques, such as taking a temperature and
trimming nails.
5. Pass a clinic walk-through oral exam covering information found in
the workbook.
We welcome all volunteers and look forward to working with you. If
interested, please fill out the Volunteer Application and bring it in
with you for orientation.
