Electrocardiogram

Our Burdick electrocardiogram accurately displays electro-conductive impulses that travel through the muscles of the heart.  EKGs can be done with your pet awake and minimally restrained, as well as being a painless procedure.  Our veterinarians can compare the normal EKG values of your pet, by measuring different heights and widths of the deflections and rhythm changes.  With proper interpretation, medications can be accurately prescribed.  These EKGs can be combined with the radiographs and ultrasound results for a more complete interpretation of cardiac functions.  We can also send these rhythms online to board certified specialists for a more in-depth diagnosis.

Another commonly used means of an EKG is to assess the patient's ability to safely withstand the anesthesia for any procedure.  If the EKG is within normal limits, then the anesthesia is more safely administered and maintained.  Preoperative EKG results will promote a safer, more confident procedure.
